I have investigated various aspects of inherited and complex eye disorders ranging from the molecular basis and disease pathogenesis to the development of therapy and improvement of clinical diagnosis. Ongoing projects are focused on understanding the development and changes of sensory systems, specifically the visual system over time and with disease, and consolidated this knowledge to develop optimising eye health care service models.
My continuing research interests largely revolve around chronic, progressive disorders, foremost glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, as these are major concerns in our society. Current investigations firstly aim to identify new clinical markers to enable early detection and intervention for these conditions. My second, equally important research goal emphasises the implementation of such knowledge in the form of improved technology, assessment or interpretation of clinical data within ophthalmic professions as well as collaborative care models.
