The Graduate Certificate in Myopia Management is the world’s first university accredited program designed to provide advanced knowledge and clinical experience necessary for registered optometrists to prescribe evidence-based treatment for the management of myopia.
The program incorporates diverse and flexible content delivery, with self-paced online distance education modules (interactive online webinars, discussion groups, lecture recordings and exercises), supported by clinical placements at the UNSW Optometry Clinic for hands on clinical skill development and evaluation.
This Australian designed program is based on current and future evidence-based standards of treatment and management of myopia applied to our Australian context. The courses will involved an award winning teaching team of experienced clinical and didactic instructors, drawn from Australia and internationally.
Note: The Graduate Certificate in Myopia Management is designed to provide further training including clinical training to trained and established local and international optometrists. It is not appropriate for people wanting to train for registration to practice as an optometrist in Australia.
Units of Credit
24 units of credit are required for completion of the Graduate Certificate in Myopia Management.
Length of Study
Length of Program: It is recommended that all components of the program be completed over the course of 12 months, with a maximum enrolment time of 36 months.
Admission is limited to students with a minimum of a three-year undergraduate degree in Optometry with a credit average. Upon completion graduates will have advanced disciplinary knowledge and skills that will allow them to offer evidence-based management of myopia to their patients.
Applications for 2019 are now open and can be submitted via https://apply.unsw.edu.au/ The program code for the Graduate Certificate in Myopia Management is 7433. If your degree is not from UNSW Australia, you will be asked to supply certified copies of your Undergraduate transcripts and testamur. You may also be asked to supply certified proof of your Australian citizenship and any name change that occurred after completing your degree.

|OPTM7621||Clinical Myopia Managment|
Students must complete OPTM7611 (Introduction to Myopia) and OPTM7612 (Myopia Management) before they can enrol in OPTM7621 Clinical Myopia Management. Students must complete OPTM7104 (Advanced Contact Lens Studies 1) prior to or at the same time as completing OPTM7621 Clinical Myopia Management.
