Higher Degree Research Student of the Week: Meet Mahjabeen Khan who is undertaking research on the resistance mechanisms of bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa, which is known to cause eye infections, more often in contact lens wearers. Interestingly, whilst undertaking her research Maha has found novel antibiotic resistance genes that have not been previously reported in the ocular isolates of this bacteria.

Maha was an inaugural member of the UNSW Woman in Maths and Science Champions programme which commenced in 2018 and is currently a mentee of the Industry Mentoring and Networking in STEM group.
