My research is concerned with understanding how we perceive real-world and artificial environments. Our brain infers information about the physical properties of objects in the environment through neural signals it receives from the six senses. I seek to identify specific patterns in sensory information that are important for our perceptual experience of object shape and material composition. One exciting extension to this research motivation is to determine how we perceive whether objects are moving or whether we ourselves are moving relative to stationary objects. You will find in my publications many insights insight into these phenomena based on research using computer vision and virtual reality.
