Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Parthasarathi Kalaiselvan is an Optometrist and Research Fellow at the School of Optometry and Vision Science at UNSW Sydney. His work centres on investigating, developing and validating novel antimicrobial contact lenses and lens cases to prevent contact lens-related infection and inflammation. He has a keen interest in translational research in clinical optometry, having done work to move from basic research to animal model validations and finally into human clinical research. He draws upon his experiences with patients to guide the end goals of his research and has assembled an international collaborative research network.

His team is currently working on these specific projects:

  1. Clinical efficacy of antimicrobial contact lens storage cases
  2. Microbiome of contact lens storage cases
  3. Development of antimicrobial contact lenses
  4. Evaluating the PPE against microbes and development of new disinfection systems for PPE
  5. Assessing tear film and ocular surface in contact lens wear
  6. Acanthamoeba adhesion to contact lenses and novel antimicrobial strategies for Acanthamoeba
