Centre for Eye Health Research Group

3D OCT imaging of the optic nerve and surrounding retina

Welcome to the CFEH research group situated at the University of New South Wales.

The Centre for Eye Health is a joint initiative between Guide Dogs NSW/ACT and the University of New South Wales, Sydney and provides state-of-the-art advanced imaging and eye examination services to patients free of charge. CFEH has a large database of over 30,000 patients with comprehensive ocular imaging and therefore provides a unique opportunity to explore and understand major ocular diseases such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration as well as natural processes such as aging of the human eye.

CFEH serves as a valuable resource for research. It enables researchers from various disciplines to investigate ocular conditions and develop management strategies for improved patient-management paradigms.

In addition, the Centre conducts comparisons and evaluations of various pieces of advanced equipment; develops standardised protocols to interrogate patient information; and develops a large patient database of various ocular conditions.

Uniquely offering a free service to people who are at-risk or suspected of early stage eye disease, CFEH is able to utilise clinical data to research more effective ways to save sight for more people.
