It is believed that, to ensure patient safety and improve outcomes, health professionals need to constantly update their knowledge and thus they should be lifelong learners. Based on the education theories, one of the main attributes of lifelong learners is having self-regulated and self-directed aptitudes of learning (SELF-ReDiAL or in short, SR). Considering this, it is inferred that health professional education aims at developing lifelong learners with high levels of SR. Accordingly, it is imperative to design a valid and reliable tool for measuring SR in health professional students which will assist in research to determine the enablers of and barriers to these aptitudes.

Researchers at UNSW are conducting a project to develop a tool for measuring SR in health professional students and determine the association between this SR aptitude and wellbeing, and as a student enrolled in one of the health-related programs, including Medicine, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and other allied health disciplines, at universities in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK you are being invited to take part. Participation in this research is not a requirement of the course.

Taking part in this research study is optional and you may choose not to participate. Your decision to participate, or not, will have no impact on your assessments or course grades.

If you are interested, the research project is looking for people who are willing to take part in this research and who are:

Enrolled in one of the health-related programs, including Medicine, Optometry, Physiotherapy, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Nursing, and other allied health disciplines, at universities in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK.

If you decide to take part in the research, a full description of the research is included in the attached participant information statement and consent form – a copy can be downloaded using this link:
