Research in the School of Optometry and Vision Science encompasses a diverse range of topics and disciplines, including basic, applied and clinical research in the science of vision. Research students from a variety of disciplines, including microbiology, psychology, education, bio-engineering, pharmacology as well as optometry and ophthalmology have studied for higher degrees at the School. The School's multidisciplinary approach to research is one of its key strengths.

  • The School is regarded internationally for strengths in contact lens, anterior segment, retina and vision science research. Staff members are internationally recognised as being at the forefront of contact lens research, including the development and commercialisation of research in this area.
  • The Optics and Radiometry Laboratory (ORLAB) is an unparalleled international facility for photometry and colorimetry.
  • The School has a unique position as it is co-located with a varied range of eye research and education institutes including the Centre for Eye Health, Brien Holden Vision Institute, Optometric Vision Research Foundation, Optometry Giving Sight and Vision CRC.
  • The Orthokeratology Research (ROK) Group in the School have established a unique and productive facility.
