Congratulations to Scientia Professor Fiona Stapleton who was named in The Australian 250 top researchers in Australia. Fiona was one of 66 scholars who are leading the field of health and medical sciences and the top research leader in Optometry and Ophthalmology.
With a background in epidemiology in eye disease, corneal infection, dry eye and contact lens related diseases, Fiona Stapleton is a world-renowned vision scientist.
She was awarded her PhD from City University and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London for her research on the pathogenesis and epidemiology of contact lens-related disease and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at University College London. She holds numerous memberships and executive affiliations with scientific organisations and is the President Elect of the International Society for Contact Lens Research, is a regular reviewer for a range of journals, belongs to the international editorial board of three journals, has over 250 peer-reviewed publications, has contributed 20 chapters to textbooks and published one book.
Currently a Scientia Professor within the School, Scientia Professor Stapleton teaches final years Optometry students in Ocular Therapeutics and supervises a large number of postgraduate students. She is also the Associate Dean of Enterprise for the Faculty of Science at UNSW Sydney.
