Dr Lisa Asper has been appointed as the new Director of Teaching at the School of Optometry and Vision Science, UNSW Sydney. Currently a Senior Lecturer at the School Dr Asper teaches Optometry to students in Stages 3 and 4. For full biography please see below:
Dr Lisa Asper was awarded her OD (Doctor of Optometry) degree from Southern California College of Optometry in 1980. Following her years in private optometric practice, she moved to Australia in 1987 and began teaching optometry at UNSW in 1989. She was awarded her PhD from UNSW Sydney in 2004. Her thesis topic was neural processing in amblyopia.
Dr Asper is a Senior Lecturer at UNSW Sydney School of Optometry and Vision Science (SOVS). She primarily teaches binocular vision topics, and her research investigates various aspects of binocularity and primary care optometry. She co-ordinates three stage 3 and 4 preclinical courses. She has served as undergraduate coordinator and is currently the Director of Learning and Teaching for the UNSW SOVS. She is a reviewer for several optometric journals, and is a member of Optometry Australia.
