Dr Rajesh Kuppusamy is a Research Fellow at the School of Optometry and Vision Science. He specialises in Medicinal chemistry - an interdisciplinary science that involves synthetic organic chemistry, chemical and structural biology for the development and discovery of new therapeutic agents (particularly new antibiotics).
His area of expertise also covers developing analytical assays, working with spectroscopy instrumentation including HPLC, MS for quantitative and qualitative analysis of drug molecules as well as API impurities and microbiology assays for the mode of action of antibacterial compounds.
Rajesh’s areas of research interests include: development and modification of antimicrobial compounds for surface attachment to medical devices (e.g. contact lenses, bone implants, catheters), new therapies and ways of diagnosing Acanthamoeba infections, and understanding the mode of action of our new antibiotics and disinfectants.
